Comic Book Data Update

Comic Book Data Update

We have been updating the comic series data as we get new and old comics in-stock.

You may see a few different series names for the same series. As we get more comics the series info will get updated and sort it self out.

How we determine a series title is with a combination of factors.

The first is the indicia which is typically on the first or last page. Not always true, but most of the time. We will use the way the title is spelled and abbreviated from the indicia.

Next we look for the cover date for issue #1. We avoid Ashcan Editions and Issue #0. Some comics get released before the cover date. We will still use the cover date to determine what year to put at the end of the title.

For Example: Batman #1 has a cover date that says "Spring 1940" so our series title will be Batman (1940).

When it comes to variant covers we focus on the UPC code if it has one. New comics come with a 17 digit upc code. The first 12 digits would be the same for the whole series. The last 5 digits determine the issue #, the variant and which print run it is.

If you look at the last 2 digist of the UPC code, the regular cover, or cover A will end in 11. Cover B will end in 21, cover C would be 31 etc.

The 1 mean at the end means 1st printing. If it is a 2 that means 2nd printing etc.

Some times the publishers will say Cover A, Cover B or Cover C. If the publisher assigned the cover letter than we will use the same cover letter they assigned. If there isn't a cover letter than we will use the UPC Code.

I hope this helps you as you search through the website.
